by Vanessa Bates

Bluestone Church Arts Space
8A Hyde Street, Footscray

Date and time (of relaxed performances)

3.00pm Saturday 22 May
3.00pm Saturday 29 May

Duration

Approximately 80 minutes (no interval)

What is a Relaxed Performance?

Things that are included in a relaxed performance:

  • The sound effects and music will be a little bit softer than in a regular show.

  • We keep the house lights on low, so there are no moments of complete or near darkness.

  • The actors and crew all expect there to be noise and movement from the audience.

  • We’ll make sure there’s enough space between seats so you can move around comfortably in your seat.

  • You can get up and move around if you want or need to – there’s a ‘quiet’ area away from the stage, plenty of room in the foyer for pacing, and you can step outside if you need to.

  • Our Front of House Manager is ready to help if you need it.

Stage Plan

Show notes

Every Second is a comedy drama. There’s a lot of moments that are very funny, and also some serious and sad moments in the show. We anticipate that the audience will make noise by laughing at times in the show.

This show is staged in traverse. That means there’s a long stage in the middle of the room, with audience seating on both sides. You will be able to see the audience on the far end of the stage.

Every Second includes a lot of sound effects. They will be played at a lower level during the relaxed performance.

Some of these sound effects are background noise and music. Some of the sound effects are things like phones or alarms. There are a few scenes with songs playing throughout.

There is no strobe lighting in this performance. There is use of some moving lights, spotlights and colour-changing, non-strobing lights.

There are five entrances that performers will use to enter and exit the stage - three on one end of the stage and two on the other.

There is one dance in the performance. It is intended to be funny and not serious.

There is no audience participation in this performance. It is unlikely any actor will make eye contact with you. Performers will not get closer than 1 metre to the audience

Every Second contains some difficult themes and frequent moments of heightened emotion. More detail is below under content warnings.
