Community Program
Wit Kids
Wit Kids has been running a thriving program of term-based after-school drama and musical theatre classes since 2016, and grown a strong community of excited, engaged 5-12 year old local participants.
In 2022-23, a new initiative was the Wit Kids ‘Yes, And…’ holiday camps. We had two successful intensive 5-day holiday performing arts camps in July 2022 and January 2023, running from 9am-3pm each day and connecting 80 children aged 6-16 years from the Maribyrnong community. The children were split into 2 groups based on age, and participated in workshops and masterclasses in singing, dancing, acting and prop/costume making. The experience supported diverse young community members to develop valuable artistic skills, and grow lasting friendships, bonds and networks through the collaborative creation of an original show. The program also included a working bee set design/building day with children and their families leading by an experienced theatre set designer. On the final afternoon, we put together a performance for friends and family, extending community connection and impact.
