Bleached

AN ABSURD AND REVOLUTIONARY NEW WORK SPECULATING ON A FUTURE RAVAGED BY A CLIMATE CATASTROPHE

The world is in decay.

Colours are fading. The bees are buried. Countries are closing.

Bleached explores the impact of climate change set in a future where the world is locking down, environmental apocalypse is impending, and the human race disappearing.

In Collins’ absurd and poignant new work, Australian tourists crawl the globe, like "cockroaches”, consuming all it has to offer, before it is locked down forever; a last-ditch universal effort to fight the climate crisis.

And they will blame chickens...

Wit’s 10 Year Anniversary Cabaret

8 MAR 2024

Bluestone Church Arts Space

Wit celebrated our 10 years of work including storytelling, working with hundreds of artists, offering local discounted kids drama classes, and managing festivals and workshops. We held a cabaret celebration with a series of wonderful performances including theatre sketch, circus, comedy, music theatre, contortion, songs, Guzheng playing and more. The event entry is by donation. The night was celebrated with our followers, supporters, donors, family and friends in the community over drinks, food and chats.

Community Program

Wit Kids Drama program

You will be pleased to hear that Wit Kids is going from strength to strength and we continue to expand into new areas. Our Drama and Musical Theatre classes for ages 5-14 run weekly at Maribyrnong Community Centre and Yarraville Seniors Centre and are nearly always fully booked. The impact that these classes have on the children is extraordinary to see. We had an amazing end of year performance which was a huge success and our parents and families loved watching their child perform and to see how much their confidence has grown over the past year.

We have also been offering free school holiday camps when we have funding available and in January, we collaborated with The Bowery Theatre for the first time to run a 4-day school holiday program, where we received great feedback from the families and the Bowery team. Wit Kids has also brought classes to a homeschool earlier in the year, and we are excited to be working with Kensington Primary School for the first time, offering an after school drama class.

Sector Strengthening

Sundays With Wit

We have done one special Sundays With Wit workshop where we supported a local artist, Artemis Munoz’s original work, by holding a private playread workshop. We invited a group of actors to read the play, with a director and a few writers in the room to provide feedback and discuss the play/the story. It was a productive workshop experience where everyone was very generous to share their thoughts/opinions to keep the discussion going and support the work in its development stage and the writer.

Besides the playread workshop, we had 5 successful development workshops this year including β€˜Unlocking Shakespeare with Tim Paige’, β€˜Beginner’s Clowning with Rohan Dimsey’, β€˜Fundamental Introduction to Stage combat with Seb Muirhead’, β€˜Art Therapy with Susi Langdon’, and β€˜Stage Management with Reis Low’. We had fantastic experiences working with these talented facilitators and met many wonderful artists/participants. The program certainly has grown with increased participants and introducing more skill sets. We are thrilled to be able to continue running these workshops on a β€˜pay as you can’ basis to support local artists’ development.
